The theme remains the same. Man was in fellowship with God, and all was well. God made covenant from the very beginning to keep them in perfect harmony. Man was drawn away from that covenant by A fallen spirit who was eager to get back at God for ousting him from his position. Man fell under the authority of that fallen spirit who has been called in the New Testament, “the God of this world”. Man needed a Savior. God worked with man even in the Old Testament to shield man from the fury of the oppressor. Man would follow awhile and experience bouts of peace. Man would be drawn away again and suffer intense persecution. There are many things that God said to curb the actions of the enemy from repeatedly buffeting his man. One such passage is found in Isaiah 58: 3-12

3 Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge?
