They that Oberve Lying Vanites Forsake Their Own Mercies
Even though the prophet Jonah, got out of the will of God by refusing to go to the city of Nineveh and giving them the word of the Lord, He made amends. You see he repented, and prayed to God in the belly of the whale. Jonah 2:4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. Verses 7-10
7 When my soul fainted within me: I remembered the Lord and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
10 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
Had Jonah keep his mind on his dilemma, that would have been his end. He remembered the Lord, and his ability to grant mercy. He even declared that he would look again toward the temple. Now you look at God’s word and turn your attention away from that dilemma. Faith in the mercy of God must be developed.
